Safety First at Scorpion Bay, and thankfully there are a number of resources for new or long-time boat owners to learn more about boater safety here in Arizona through the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department. The United States Coast Guard and the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators approve these two upcoming opportunities:
- August 11, at 1-6 p.m.: A classroom-based Arizona Boater Education Course at Lake Pleasant Regional Park’s Discover Center, 41835 N. Castle Hot Springs Rd., Morristown, AZ, (602) 506-2930 ext. 2. (Additional information below)
- August 24: Discovery Station: Lake and Boater Safety at Lake Pleasant Regional Park’s 10-lane boat ramp. No registration is required. Stop by anytime from 7 a.m. – 10 a.m. and talk to Ranger Derik. (Additional information below)
The Sunday, Aug. 11 class covers a variety of topics including boating terminology, things to know before getting on the water, how to operate your boat safely, legal requirements, and what to do in emergencies.
Students will be working out of a booklet, so bring reading glasses if needed. On-the-water skills are not included in this course. You can bring a lunch or snack to eat. There is a restroom on site.
Students must be 10 years of age or older to attend. If you are registering a minor under the age of 18, a parent or guardian over the age of 18 must accompany them to the class. Most importantly, please do not forget to print and sign the Consent Waiver provided below in the "Required Files" section.
