5 Best Team Building Options in Arizona

Looking to bring the team together for strategic planning, team building and strengthening company culture? Instead of the typical bowling and ballgames, get people excited and out of their comfort zones with uncommon team-building activities guaranteed to make an impact while uncovering hidden reservoirs of leadership and talent. We’ve gathered five options from around the state that will have your group cheering “Go Team, Go!” from goat yoga and boating, to ghost towns and exhilarating ropes courses.

AZ Goat Yoga, Gilbert

AZ Goat Yoga is a memorable and unpredictably delightful team building option located in Gilbert, but available to travel to your team’s location if needed. It offers a casual and fun environment for your team with some participants opting to just meditate, or sit on their yoga mat and pet the goats. While only 20% of participants do yoga on a regular basis, the majority find they actually like yoga after their first Goat Yoga class or team building event.

Each class is an hour long and participants should bring their own mat. If not, AZ Goat Yoga has a limited supply for rent or sale. During class, the goats interact with your employees, running around, through, over and even on team members while doing individual and group yoga sequences.

AZ Goat Yoga can accommodate team-building groups from 5 to 100 in a large farm field setting. Everyone from Ozzy Osborn, to local TV reporters have tried the latest fitness craze, with most being incredibly surprised at how much fun they had, even if they weren’t big yogis.

Classes fill up quickly, so contact April and Sarah early to ensure you team has a spot. Also, keep in mind that classes may be canceled for rain or irrigation. Contact owner@GoatYoga.com, or call (480) 269-4144.

Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course, Flagstaff

Flagstaff Extreme has multiple large circuits for team building, each containing a mixture of approximately 10-17 different obstacles and zip lines. The obstacles range from rope swings, scrambling walls, hanging nets, wobbly bridges and suspended “surprises”.

The skill level and height of each circuit are marked using a color-coded system indicating the challenge based on elevation and difficulty. It ranges from minimum elevation and minimum skill to advanced elevation and advanced skill. Check-in, safety briefing, demonstration course and all Adult Courses can be completed in approximately three hours.

After a brief 30-minute training session, employees begin on a beginner course to get comfortable with the equipment and the rhythm of moving through each element. Then they can progress to increased difficulty as desired and conclude with an exhilarating zip through the forest.

The courses are meant to be used progressively and the cost of admission covers one loop or rotation through the Adult courses. At any exit point along the courses, employees can descend. Walking paths will take team members back to the guest services and welcome center.

Jester’Z Improv Comedy, Mesa

JesterZ Imrpov Comedy in Mesa has been inspiring small businesses and Fortune 500 companies since 2001. Teams can choose from pure entertainment, hands-on fun or experiential team training focused on improving one major aspect of the business.

How does improv translate to team building? Improvisation takes strong, confident decision making and a willingness to see an idea through on stage. These same skills, confident decision making and following through on ideas are very valuable in the corporate world.

The JesterZ team will help business teams focus on one main area for improvement and then utilize theater exercises and improv techniques to help participants enhance:

  • Communication: Gain the ability to tell compelling stories without preparation. Learn spontaneous communication skills in a fun, supportive atmosphere and how to reduce fear of public speaking. Plus learn to better understand body language and non-verbal cues to adapt presentations.
  • Teamwork: Team members learn to cooperate, trust, build on ideas, solve problems, put egos aside for a common goal and have fun as they learn principles of agreement and listening through humorous impromptu performances.
  • Creativity and Innovation: Team members learn to create something out of nothing, act on instinct, ignore the saboteur, create win-win solutions, generate ideas quickly, unlock imagination and brainstorm with purpose as they create powerful solutions with a group-mind mentality.

By teaching teams how to remove roadblocks and create new processes to cultivate ideas and improve business – companies are able to retain valuable employees and ultimately become more profitable. Goldfield Ghost Town, Apache Junction

The Goldfield Ghost Town in Apache Junction offers a dive into the past with its “Old West” mining town, saloon and gold panning. Corporate teams can choose relaxing carriage or historic train rides, exhilarating jeep tours or horseback rides, and explore Arizona’s heritage through an underground mining tour, historic museum tour or through the live reptile exhibit.

Goldfield Ghost Town can accommodate any wide variety of group sizes through an informal retreat or structured afternoon of team building activities and dining. Large businesses often cap their day of adventure with an old-fashioned (yet catered) outdoor BBQ complete with saloon girls and grilled steaks. Employees can also enjoy Goldfield’s free gunfights every hour, unique shopping and picturesque scenery.

For information on corporate retreats and team building opportunities, call Robert Schoose or Jay Zingler at (480) 983-0333 or visit www.goldfieldghosttown.com.

Another great resource is to ask tourism offices across the state for new and unusual team building options. Team members appreciate when atypical and thoughtful destinations are selected that will create new experiences, skills development and a real “retreat” from their normal day.

Scorpion Bay is Arizona’s premier floating playground, offering everything from daily pontoon and ski boat rentals to slips for harboring your yacht (or dinghy). Come for the fishing or come for the frolicking—either way, incredible mountain views, fantastic dining and world-class marina services await less than an hour out of Phoenix. https://www.scorpionbayaz.com/
