10 Ways to Keep Cool at Lake Pleasant

Love being on or near the water, but don't own a boat? Need information on how to have fun on Lake Pleasant? Don’t worry, we can help!

Wipe your brow, gather your friends and head off to cool adventures at Scorpion Bay. We’re located at 10970 Peninsula Blvd. in Morristown, Arizona, right next to the sparkling waters of Lake Pleasant.

Whether you’re an experienced sailor or a novice, we have watercraft rentals and cool activities that will provide you and your group with an unforgettable nautical adventure. Our fleet ranges from private charters to hourly and daily rentals of pontoon boats, sport boats, kayaks and water toys. We also have jet ski and paddleboard rentals from Pleasant Water Sports, wakeboard and wakesurf lessons and more.

Don’t worry about packing supplies, we have all you need—snacks, sunblock, ice, fishing bait and more—at the General Store. We’re expecting you!

1. Rent a Kayak at Scorpion Bay

Enjoy the calm waters of Lake Pleasant, alone or with friends, in our 16’ Malibu XL. This kayak comfortably fits single or double, with room for a small collapsible cooler or lunch tote. All safety gear is provided. Remember to paddle into the wind on the way out so on your way home you’ll have the wind at your back helping you along. Follow, the shorelines, make a plan for the day and let family and friends know we’re you’ll be. Soon you’ll be effortlessly gliding on crystal clear water, forgetting the troubles of the day.

2. Paddleboard Yoga

Need to switch up your fitness routine? Try Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga! Desert Lotus at Scorpion Bay offers a unique and exhilarating experience with the very best state-of-the art boards and paddles. You’ll find peace amidst the beautiful environment with Desert Lotus’ fantastic instructors. Try a session at sunset and you’ll be hooked! Lotus Yoga covers all levels of fitness.

Family Yoga: $38

3. Visit the Parks and Recreation Discovery Center at Lake Pleasant

A trip to Lake Pleasant is not complete without stopping at the Discovery Center. Learn about the history of the lake as you take a walk back in time, winding your way through the museum-like exhibit. You’ll learn about the natives and early settlers, plus the trials and tribulations of dams and the people behind the massive project.

Visitors love the wildlife display animals and learning about how plants and animals adapt and thrive in an often-harsh environment. Ever wonder how Lake Pleasant got its name? After you find the answer, share it on Instagram or Twitter!

The Discovery Center is about 5 miles south of Scorpion Bay Marina.

4. Wake Board, Wake Surf or Wake Skate at Scorpion Bay

Want to try wakeboarding or wakesurfing? We’ve got the boats and equipment at Scorpion Bay to have you jumping wake to wake in no time. Also, if you’re looking for a little extra assistance, several coaches teach out of Scorpion Bay including award-winning Conner Burns.

Not quite sure what wake skating is? Wake skating is like wakeboarding, but the board is not attached to the feet. Some say, "a wake skate is a cross-pollination of a wakeboard and a skateboard.” We think you’ll love it! Scorpion Bay has everything to get you started from boards to lifejackets and boats powerful enough to pull up even the biggest riders.

5. Fishing with the Hook Up Tackle Outfitters or Reel Em In Adventures.

Experience fishing on Lake Pleasant with the Hook Up Tackle Outfitters, Reel Em In Adventures or another great local outfitter. With the largemouth and striper action on Lake Pleasant, it’s no wonder why fishing in Arizona is considered the best in the west. All of our approved outfitters have guides excited to share fishing knowledge with others and offer the latest tackle and gear. Guides are licensed through the Arizona Game and Fish Department and most are fully certified in first aid and CPR.

If you’re interested in group charters, team building tournaments or private fly casting lessons, for the ultimate in guided fishing adventures, both these outfitters are committed to exceeding all your expectations.

6. Rent a Jet Ski at Scorpion Bay

Picture yourself zipping around Lake Pleasant on a jet ski! Feel the spray on your face and the wind in your hair as you stake claim to enjoying the day. Pleasant Water Sports has two rental locations, one at Scorpion Bay and one at the 10-Lane Boat Ramp. They rent Yamaha EX jet skis with capacity for up to two people and a 3-cylinder, 4-stroke engine you’ll have all the power you need while you’re on the water. There’s even enough power to pull a wakeboard.

7. Order a Beer and Food at Scorpion Bay Grill

Enjoying a brew and a meal at Scorpion Bay Grill is the perfect way to cap off a fantastic day on the water. The floating grill is super casual and very friendly, with a full menu of salads, sandwiches, burgers and cocktails. Take out or settle in for a relaxing dinner with gorgeous mountain views.

Open weekdays for lunch and weekends for breakfast, lunch and dinner Scorpion Bay Grill prides itself on fresh ingredients and five-star food. Order up some Fish and Chips, a Southwest Burger or a Crispy Sonoran Salad—we’ll meet you there! Don’t forget desert—maybe delicious cheesecake or scrumptious key lime pie?

9. Rent a Ski Boat and Tube

What’s more fun than bouncing around a wake made by one of our sport boat rentals? We offer two choices—a 21-foot DELUXE sport boat or a 21-foot sport boat. Both pull water toys, such as a water tube, and come with safety gear, a ladder and a bimini top to keep you cool.

Rates: Sport boats rent from $95 to $625 depending on boat and length of time. Hourly, half day or full day rates are available. Tubes range from $25-$40 hourly.

10. Relax on a Pontoon Boat at Scorpion Bay

Fun on a Pontoon Boat takes on many forms, whether it’s kicking back with a cocktail, fishing from the deck, jumping into the water to cool off, or just enjoying the laughter of friends and family. Your out-of-town friends won’t believe you live in the Sonoran Desert when they see the photos of you surrounded by blue water and blue skies.

Rates: Pontoon boats are available in 24’, 23’ and 20’ sizes, with prices from $95 -$570, depending on boat and length of time.
